What is Painting?

This studio class will continuously engage with the question of what painting is and what it can be.  Is painting simply getting our canvas to look like our subject?  Is it bringing visual elements together into energetic relationship?  Is it an appeal to our heart to guide us toward wholeness and connection to life?  Can all of these aspirations be held in a painting of a barn or a face or a landscape?

The prerequisites for this class are a willingness to make effort and mistakes, tolerate discomfort and an optimism that the deeper purpose of Art may be uncovered and made visible!  We will work primarily in oil paint, charcoal and gouache.

What is Painting? meets Mondays from 10 am to 1 pm,  April 9 to June 13.  This 10 week course costs $400 and all materials are provided. Sign up here

This class is not available on a drop in basis, although you may still work and be in the studio while this class is meeting.
